While Blake Mycoskie was traveling in Argentina he noted that children were suffering diseases picked up on their feet because they had no shoes. That simple observation was the genesis of TOMS Shoes and this simple business model: "For every pair you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of shoes to a child in need."
You'll see their statement on the back of every shoe bag from TOMS. And Blake has followed through on his promise with thousands of children in developing countries receiving shoes - including my adopted country of Ethiopia where children suffer from a disease called "Podo" - caused by walking barefoot in a soil unique to Ethiopia. It's 100% preventable just by wearing shoes.
TOMS' goal in 2009 is to give away an additional 300,000 pairs of shoes. Count me in!
Ephesians 4:28 says: ". . .but work, do something useful with your own hands, that you may have something to share with those in need!"
By the way, I love the shoes!
