Weeping and Rejoicing

Biblical wisdom tells us to "rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep" (Romans 12:15). Usually we think of that as two disparate moments ... but for the believer, of course, it is a simultaneous response to the news of the homegoing of a saint.
This weekend, after her very arduous battle with cancer, Carol Garlow entered the Lord's presence. Her husband, Jim, and the family were with her at that most sacred transition of temporal to eternal life.

Standing against the tide.
There's no one who more consistently exemplifies that for me than Jim Garlow.
Just last Sunday, his congregation at Skyline Church heard a fascinating exchange between four individuals--a "conversation" that included Pittsburgh Theological Seminary professor, Robert Gagnon, and Jennifer Roback Morse (Ruth Institute Founder) who support traditional marriage... juxtaposed with two others who are advocates of "same sex marriage" ... John Corvino who is head of the Department of Philosophy at Wayne State University and Bishop Eugene Robinson, the first openly gay person ordained as bishop in the Episcopal Church.
