October is National Down Syndrome Month

Every Sunday after the church service, Jim and I hug and talk about his week.  His weeks don't vary much.  He has school, work  and "fun time."  However, what did vary this week was his response.  When I hugged him goodbye and told him to have a great week, instead of the usual "Okeydokey," Jim's reply was "I've got this."

And you know what?  I know he does.

Cassandra and Her Baby

I received a call from a friend at church who works at a school for troubled teens.  A young girl, Cassandra, whom she'd seen grow up at the school, had come to her in tears asking why God lets bad things happen to people who are trying to do the right thing.

Cassandra is 17 and had given birth to a beautiful little baby girl three years ago.  One could say she's a baby taking care of a baby and  . . . she's doing it on her own. Cassandra's dad isn't in the picture and her mom ...

Life and Social Media

It's back to school time and for some of us, that means kids going away to college.

A friend just left her son at Biola.  She signed up for a Biola Twitter feed and liked a Facebook page for parents of Biola students.  Another friend learned of an app which Cal Berkeley offers to students and their families that will help when they move their child into the dorms.

Social Media has changed our world.

There's good and bad side to that and a wise parent knows the balance.  Personally, I'm less concerned about the bad side ...
