Soccer Ball KickGlory and honor.  This is what awaits those who win the World Cup.  Pride and bragging rights are what the winning country earns.

How long, however, will it last?  Who really remembers who won the 2006 and 2002 world cups, let alone the world cups from 20-30 years ago?  Don't get me wrong.  I love watching the games and cheered like crazy during the 2002 world cup game where South Korea sadly lost against Turkey and ended up in 4th place.  Nonetheless, these games don't bring about any lasting changes.

Instant Godliness?

Kiyong and CarolynOur society is all about instant gratification.

Need evidence? Just go to the grocery store! There are aisles upon aisles of instant noodles, microwave dinners and other pre-made meals.  We like the quick, efficient and hassle free solutions to our daily "problems."

I'm not bashing the innovations of our modern society or the convenience that comes with it. In fact, I quite enjoy it.  I take full advantage of microwave lasagna when I need a quick fix.  I am, however, asking whether or not I allow this philosophy of instant gratification to permeate into things that matter the most ...

Seconds of Grace

There are a lot of things I want. There are, however, very few things I actually need.  A mentor told me about an easy way to refocus my thoughts so that I have a proper view of my wants vs. needs!  He calls it a "second of grace":

1. Stop. [Stop stressing and worrying ...]

2. Breath in.

3. Pause.

4. Breath out.

Think about it.  We have air ... and the ability to breathe.  This doesn't cost us anything.  And we've been doing it all this time without even thinking about it ...
