I don't know about you but just about everyone around me has more reason than ever for concern, for fear. A family member out of work for pushing on two years. A friend struggling with increasingly debilitating disease. Graduating students scared about the world they head into shortly. A once presumed secure Christian family shattered by infidelity.
Really, the idea of a "bright new year" has a bit of a "hollow" ring to it.
Except.
Except for those who choose to trust more and fear less, it is possible to face the new year with confidence, even with joy ...

Fear sells. And marketing gurus use it everyday! Just think about it - How many news headlines make you feel calm and relaxed? Now compare that number to the doom and gloom breaking news that causes me to wonder if the end days are near!

I'm amazed that I didn't give my mother heart failure, especially with all the crazy things I did growing up! My favorite story is when I jumped off the top of a tall lifeguard post at the local beach! My mom watched me as my three year old body plummeted, head first, closer and closer to the ground. Miraculously I landed in the sand - just three inches away from the concrete slab that most likely would have ended my life!
