While playing So Cal tourist this past weekend, my 7-year old daughter Rebecca reminded me what an incredible ministry legacy God has provided for Billy Graham as she spotted his star on Hollywood Blvd.
Among the stars of actors and entertainers, my daughter noticed the star with Mr. Graham’s name on it. In the center of the city known for Academy-Award winning movies and Grammy winning music albums, Mr. Graham’s star represents a life devoted not to fame and fortune, but to sharing with others about eternal hope in Christ.
And this weekend, the ministry’s past and future converged in the Twin Cities as the summer’s Rock the River Tour culminated in Minneapolis-St. Paul, an area rich with BGEA history.
In the city where Mr. Graham’s ministry began, Franklin preached the Gospel to an entirely new generation. “It may seem like a departure from our historic Crusades," said Franklin in a recent interview, "but Rock the River really is just a continuation of the youth-focused ministry that my father and his team started more than 60 years ago with Youth For Christ."
When I asked Rebecca why she thought Mr. Graham had a star on Hollywood Blvd., her reply was humbling, “Because he tells so many people about God.” Now that’s the kind of legacy every believer wants!
