The Reason for the Season

You hear people say, "Jesus is the Reason for the Season" or "Keep Christ in Christmas," but how do you live this out when it can be such a busy, hurried time of year?

This Christmas season, Elizabeth George is encouraging us to focus on the original Christmas story in her new special, "An Old-Fashioned Christmas."

She takes us back to Scripture and the prophecy proclaimed in Isaiah 7:14, "The Lord himself will give you a sign.  The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel."

Elizabeth shares that God never makes a mistake and He certainly didn't make one when He chose Mary to be the mother of His son.  In her, we see the kind of woman God delights in--a woman after His own heart--willing to do His will.  Like Mary, we have the high calling to bring godliness as we serve God and His people.

So, ask yourself, even though you're up to your neck in getting ready for Christmas . . .

>does my behavior reflect a heart that worships God and loves Him above all else?

>do I love God by obeying His commands?

>do I love others by being careful with my words, in control of my passions, and generous with God-given wisdom?

>am I willingly serving my family with a selfless, sacrificial love?

At this Christmas time, when we remember how much God has given us in His Son, Jesus--His unspeakably wonderful gift--let's offer Him the gift of obedience, that gift which gives Jesus great joy and great glory!

A very Merry Christmas to you!
