Haiti Radio Response

HAITI: What's happening and how your station can be a part of it.

In the wake of the earthquake devastation in Haiti, many ministries are taking immediate action -- both on the ground in Haiti and on the air in Christian radio. Here are a few ways your listeners will be informed, and a few things your station can do to add to the coverage.

On the air

What listeners will hear today in response to the devastation:

Charles Morris will share an eyewitness account from a woman who is in Haiti and watched a mountain split in two during the quake.

What listeners will hear tomorrow:

"HAVEN Today"
Charles Morris will set the spiritual stage for prayer and action -- Hastening Help to Haiti. Guests include Wayne Pederson (HCJB Global) and Dick Snook (Missionary Flights International). Friday's program will also report on the latest coverage of Haiti.

"Beyond the Call"
HCJB Global President Wayne Pederson talks about their Rapid Response medical team that arrives in Haiti on Thursday and talks about the opportunity to be the "Voice & Hands" of Jesus. On Friday's program, Wayne encourages listeners to be in prayer for Christian radio stations in Haiti that have suffered from the quake.

"Life Issues®"
Brad Mattes points to the devastation as a reminder of the sacredness of life and asks listeners to pray.

***Please note if you take any of the above programs on Amb-OS, you do not need to take any action. For FTP, please find the replacement program on our FTP site.

Haiti is considered the poorest nation in the entire western hemisphere.

The 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck the island nation on Tuesday, January 12.

The epicenter is about 10 miles Southwest of Port-Au-Prince, the capital city of Haiti.

More than 100,000 are reported dead in the quake.
The 1987 constitution grants freedom of religion.

The government does not interfere with the operation of radio and other media affiliated with religious groups. In addition to the many radio stations operated by religious (mostly Protestant, including evangelical) groups, religious programming is a staple of commercial broadcasting.

Goods brought into the country for use by registered churches and missionaries are exempt from customs duties and registered churches are not taxed.

Foreign missionaries can enter on regular tourist visas.
