I felt my heart drop when I heard about the earthquake and all the devastation in Haiti. As the days went by, I was blown away by the death counts, and prayed that God would first and foremost be a place of hope for these people. I am thankful for those who sacrificially drop everything going on in their lives to help those in need. Mercy Ships®, one of the first responders, sent doctors, nurses and other experienced medical experts to provide emergency surgery in this crisis. With more than 1,000 people who have connected with Mercy Ships®, they also have a long term plan to provide a sustained effort to help the Haitian people over the next few years.
It is in times of crisis, however, when acts of mercy shine the brightest. The Mercy minute is filled with stories of how men and women have taken sacrifices to help others in a time of need. I am always encouraged and challenged by these short stories to take that extra step! "The Mercy Minute®" program, however, isn't just heart warming stories. It is a call to action - to be like Jesus to the people around you so that they too can extend love and mercy to others.
I look forward to hearing more stories from the Mercy Minute in 2010 as they send their floating hospital, the Africa Mercy, to Togo. They will be serving the poorest people there with thousands of surgeries from February to August 2010.
I anticipate hearing more of these stories LIVE from Don Stephens, founder of Mercy Ships®, at Nashville in just over a month! If you are attending NRB 2010, he'd love to meet you at the Ambassador Suite (Presidential Boardroom A) on Monday at 11:00AM. If you want to schedule a meeting with him, please e-mail me at email@example.com or call me at 949-681-7626.
Finally, please also feel free to post your stories here. Who knows? Your story might be featured in a "Mercy Minute" and encourage all listeners to do the same!
