As Nancy Leigh DeMoss shares on today's Revive Our Hearts™ program . . .
Some of you may be familiar with the children's book called We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen. On their trip, the family encounters hard times: long, wavy grass; a deep, cold river; thick, oozy mud; a big, dark forest, and a whirling, swirling snowstorm. Each time, they realize, "We can't go over it. We can't go under it. Oh, no, we have to go through it."
I saw that, and I thought, "What a picture of life." Encounter hard times: cancer diagnosis; discover that your mate is having an affair; lose your job; find out that the child you're carrying has a life-threatening condition. There's no control over those things. You can't go over it. You can't go under it. You can't go around it. You have no choice but to go through it.
You may have also heard the recent news that dear friend and fellow broadcaster, Joni Eareckson Tada was just diagnosed with breast cancer resulting in surgery yesterday. While the prognosis is very good, there's undoubtedly concern for what Joni faces as she starts to undergo treatment soon.
I find it no coincidence that next week (July 5-9), Revive Our Hearts™ had scheduled to air "A Conversation with Joni" in which Nancy interviews her on the topic of suffering.
While suffering is inevitable in a fallen world, Nancy and Joni help us understand that it can bring God glory and there are rewards:
- It will give us a bigger view of God.
- It will give us a more humble view of ourselves.
- It will give us a more compassionate view of others.
- It will give us a right view of life.
- It will give us a heightened view of eternity.
