The Dobson's 50th Anniversary

This weekend it was a deep joy and privilege to gather in a Pasadena church fellowship hall and mark an historic wedding anniversary.

In fact, the images of the happy young couple still linger in my mind--along with Frank Sinatra and Celine Dion's melodic rendering that played as the slide show took us through the years that have passed so quickly:

So, if you'll let me love you, it's for sure I'm gonna love you ... all the way ... all the way.

When Sammy Cahn and Jimmy Van Heusen wrote the lyrics "who knows where the road will lead us," they must have had Jim Dobson and Shirley Deere in mind. Who could have envisioned what the 50 years they've travelled together would hold. The original plan to serve as a Christian psychologist and a school teacher were, well, sort of amplified when a new book called Dare to Discipline was published in 1976 … followed by the founding of "Focus on the Family" the next year. The intervening decades brought ministry beyond anyone's ability to "prognosticate." And, now, there's a whole new chapter with "Family Talk."

It's a lifetime of God's grace clearly at work ... and certainly worth celebrating. And so, we're doing just that -- and we want to invite you to join us in that effort!
