In the wake of the earthquake devastation in Haiti, many ministries are taking immediate action -- both on the ground in Haiti and on the air in Christian radio. Here are a few ways your listeners will be informed, and a few things your station can do to add to the coverage. On the airWhat listeners will hear today in response to the devastation: "HAVEN NOW" What listeners will hear tomorrow: "HAVEN Today" "Beyond the Call" "Life Issues®" ***Please note if you take any of the above programs on Amb-OS, you do not need to take any action. FAST FACTS Haiti is considered the poorest nation in the entire western hemisphere. The 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck the island nation on Tuesday, January 12. The epicenter is about 10 miles Southwest of Port-Au-Prince, the capital city of Haiti. More than 100,000 are reported dead in the quake. The government does not interfere with the operation of radio and other media affiliated with religious groups. In addition to the many radio stations operated by religious (mostly Protestant, including evangelical) groups, religious programming is a staple of commercial broadcasting. Goods brought into the country for use by registered churches and missionaries are exempt from customs duties and registered churches are not taxed. Foreign missionaries can enter on regular tourist visas. |
