One Act of Compassion

Did you know that April was National Child Abuse Prevention Month?  What did you do to raise awareness and prevent child abuse?

Each day, over 500 radio stations champion the cause of children through Compassion International's short feature, Speak Up With Compassion® with Wess Stafford.  Wess often shares with listeners that it can take just one person's voice to make a world of difference in the life of a child.

Prayer and Praise

HCJB Global PrayerEach week the members in my church's small group go around the circle and share two things:  One prayer and one praise report.  No one is exempt from the "praise" category!  You see, we decided that we needed that weekly reminder to think about where God showed up -- and to encourage each other with answered prayers.  Now, it's not uncommon to hear someone's "praise" list overshadow the "prayer" list . . . and we leave expectant about how God will show up in the week ahead.

Reading the Daily NewsEven with a journalistic background, sometimes I read the news and get lost in the details. You might relate ... I get the main points , but I don't take the time to integrate the meaning into my life. That's one reason I'm so grateful for Chuck Colson and Mark Earley. Just last week as headlines soared about Goldman Sachs, Chuck Colson explained the real story of the day: a lost of ethics in commercial markets and the trickle down impact on ...

According to Dennis Rainey

"We spend far more time preparing for the wedding and all the details surrounding that than we do for the marriage.  We spend more money on the wedding dress than we do on marriage preparation."

By a look at these statistics recently published -- I'd say he makes a strong argument:

  • $72 billion per year is spent on weddings.
  • The average wedding budget is $20,000.
  • $1,016 is the average cost of wedding rings for the bride and groom.

To be sure every soon-to-be-married couple is ready to walk down the aisle in June ...

John MacArthur Answers Your Bible Questions

Bible Q&A with John MacArthur

  • Do we really understand what Jesus meant in Revelation 3:20, "Behold I stand at the door and knock ..."?
  • Was the Lord's prayer in Matthew 6 intended for us to recite verbatim?
  • In Luke 5, Jesus healed the leper, but in Luke 15, he commanded him "tell no one."  Why would Jesus have told the leper to keep the good news to himself?
  • In Ephesians 6:4, Paul tells parents to "Bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord."  What did Paul mean by "discipline" and "instruction"?

These are tough Bible questions and who better ...
