Parenting isn't for the faint of heart

I was preaching this past Sunday morning during our first service at Trabuco Canyon Community Church, and as I'm sharing timeless truth from sacred Scripture I hear a kid talking in the back of the church...15 pews away. Now, I know I should be patient, especially with 4 year olds, but how many times to I need to tell this kid to be quiet during service? It's not the first time.

You would think he'd have enough sense to whisper, but no. Eventually his mother got him to stop.  It's a good thing too, because I was almost ready to walk to the back of the church and put him on a time-out myself! So if you ever visit my church, please don't talk to Paul Ivan Jacobsen (my son) during service...he won't stop.

Parenting isn't for the faint of heart.  We want our children to obey, and to "listen the first time with a happy heart" but so often they don't listen until the 3rd time, and then not with "happy hearts."

Parenting is a real issue that many of us struggle with, not just because we want our children to obey, but we want them to obey for the right reasons. We don't just want to control their behavior (let's face it warden's control prisoner's behavior), we want to Shepherd their Hearts ; which is why Charles had Ted Tripp on HAVEN Today this last weekend and will have him on again this weekend. I'm going to listen, because we all need to shepherd our children's hearts well.

Here is a little taste of what is on the broadcast.
