For this month--here's what we posted to our News & Insights section!

Is there a human on the other end?

HCJB Facebook PageI was sitting in a doctor's office awaiting a travel vaccine.  Ouch!  I posted my "woes" to my Facebook account from my phone and within five minutes had a few responses to my "status update" from friends offering sympathy.

Why did I "broadcast" my day's activities?  I suppose that, in an often-impersonal doctor's office, I was feeling the need for a little human connection.  I wouldn't have done it if I believed there wasn't anyone on the other end.

The same is true for people connecting with an organization's Facebook page.  More often than ...

Got Time for Your Spouse?

When's the last time you had a getaway weekend with your spouse?

That's the question I recently asked a few friends.  Surprising, only one couple said they actually make time for each other.  The other couples spend their days and weekends running kids to and from soccer games, tending to an elderly parent, and/or managing the pressures of a career.  Admittedly, they said they don't make time to getaway, much less schedule a date night.

FamilyLife understands that life can get in the way of marriage. That's why they developed the Weekend to Remember®  getaway ...

Reaching the Youth Today

Jonathan Edwards (Puritan pastor and theologian) became serious about his life and spiritual growth at the young age of 19.  The more he understood God, the more he understood his own sinful nature and the need for sanctification.  With a compelling desire to honor God with his life, he penned a series of commitments that all began with Resolved.

As a way to call today's younger generation to the same level of spiritual commitment Edwards demonstrated over 200 years ago, Grace Community Church, where John MacArthur is senior pastor, created the Resolved Conference.  This conference is annually drawing 3 ...

Do you want a high-five and free t-shirt?

Compassion radio stations are heroesRecently I and a few friends went to a large Christian music festival where we talked to hundreds of people who wanted to save the world.  We told them they could.  We gave them high-fives and a free t-shirt that says "COMPASSION" in a really cool design.  We told people that saving the world is a lot better than high fives and free t-shirts.  And they believed us.  How do we know?  When they left us they walked away with a photo of their newly sponsored child.

As a Compassion volunteer I talked with a lot of folks who were ...

Billy Graham Speaks to Escapism

Its summer time and the kids and I have planned our summer escape-a week at Hume Lake Christian Camp deep in Sequoia National Forest.

It'll be nice to escape the routine responsibilities of life for a few days . . . no homework, no emails, no household chores, just relaxing and enjoying the beautiful nature God created.

But there are those whose need to escape is far more "life-altering" - like the prisoner in a state penitentiary who wrote to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and shared,

"I am a life-termer, and for 10 years I have been dreaming and planning for the ...
