News & Insights

With 50 years of experience, we "get" that things are always changing! That's why we've dedicated a section of our website to provide the very latest information about the speakers and ministries we serve--and about us, too. Come take a look at "what's new"--or use the sidebar options to take a deeper look at areas of particular interest. In case you wonder what we think, we've dedicated a space for commentary (including guest posts). And take a look at who's been to Ambassador lately in our own version of the Greenroom!

Not Just A Statistic!

Jean Valjean 24601Life Issues® with Brad Mattes reminds me of the power behind numbers.  It's not just a digit ... it's a life

In college we used to say that we were just a "number."  Our school ID number was needed to check e-mail, register for classes, get into the café, and even access our rooms!

I'm sure you can relate.  We all have a phone number, bank account number, license plate number and social security number.  Thankfully, these numbers aren't designed to dehumanize us, but help things run smoothly in our daily life.

There are instances, however, when ...

Jim Garlow Update

Jim and Carol GarlowMany of you have stood with Jim Garlow in the past several months as he and his wife, Carol, have battled with cancer. It's a time again that we're hitting our knees in prayer as the battle is continuing to be waged. Jim has been providing updates at the church blog and on Facebook. I wanted to take a moment and share part of his update with you as well, in case you hadn't heard the latest.

Kid's Features Making an Impact

There's something new from Compassion -- and you don't want to miss it!  Each week Wess Stafford, speaker for Speak Up With Compassion®, turns over the microphone to kids to hear what they have to say about children in poverty.  Here's one of them:

Compassion Kid's FeaturesThis year teenagers in Long Beach, California came up with a cool idea to help kids in Haiti!  Hi, this is Summer Conner, a southern California child of Compassion speaking up for children in poverty!  Every year there's a big race in Long Beach called the Grand Prix.  And lots of people pay ...

In the car with the kids, seems all three had something to say . . . from homework that needed to be done to asking what was for dinner.  It's not that I didn't want to listen to what each of them, but I quickly lost my focus as the three of them kept trying to speak to me at the same time!

It got me to thinking . . . isn't daily life like that?  We have so much on any given day vying for our attention-we're challenged every minute with "who and what to listen to" . . . both in the mundane ...

What a mess!

Oil SpillWhat a mess!

I heard my wife’s voice on the other end of the line talking to my daughter….my daughter Grace who we both love, but who often forgets to clean up after she has played with her toys. It can be really frustrating. Any parent knows it’s a whole lot easier to prevent the mess than it is to clean it up.

Parents are not the only ones who know.  BP knows…The Gaylord Opryland knows…Wall Street knows.  In fact, if you’ve been listening this past week to HAVEN Today you’ve heard Charles ...

Mother's Day FlowersAs a single woman with no children--Mother's Day is an "interesting" holiday.

Like when the pastor says:  "Would all the mothers please stand!"
Whoa!  Intimidating!  And let's not even talk about the children passing out "mother flowers."  It's not that I don't want mothers honored, I'm just saying it's a weird moment.

And eating out alone on Mother's Day Sunday?  For many, that can be daunting on a regular day!

I have a single friend who hasn't had a birthday celebrated on her birthday in years!  She was born on Mother's ...
