When Tragedy Hits Close to Home

My mood on Saturday morning suddenly turned somber as I learned about the shooting tragedy that took place in Tucson, my hometown.

Having reconnected with many Tucson friends through Facebook, I started seeing their posts shortly after the event occurred and in seeing pictures on the news, realized that this tragic event took place in a very familiar shopping center located just a few minutes from where I used to live.

Even though Arizona politics have become heated in recent years, I couldn't imagine something like this happening in this small community.  Growing up in Tucson, I can recall many times where I felt like it was too small of a town for me.  Now that I live in a big city, I always enjoy coming home to this picturesque, desert community where life moves at a much slower pace.

Tucson holds a special place in my heart and my prayers go out to the victims and their families.  In the midst of such a senseless act, I'm so thankful for the churches and the Christian radio stations there who are providing support and compassion to this city at such a difficult time.

I invite you to read this piece by Doug Martin, GM of KVOI/KGMS in Tucson and join with him in lending your prayerful support for Congresswoman Giffords and the others who were gravely affected.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1
