When traveling down life's path we sometimes come up to forks in the road, trees of cool shade and deserts of harsh heat. And, we also come to stop at the mile markers along the way. Reminders of where we've been and how far we've traveled.
A milestone that I see coming up along my life's path is the two-year mark since my husband was laid-off from his job. And, I'm grateful. Grateful that the Lord has kept His promise to never leave us, grateful that our community has rallied around us and grateful that we've never felt God closer.
And, Joni is celebrating an important milestone, too. One year ago, Joni was diagnosed with breast cancer and today she's rejoicing a clear PET scan, continuing her healthy journey of remission.
What an amazing God we serve! That even in the wrenching twists and turns of this life we can look back and give thanks. Through surgery, treatments, tests and ailing side-effects, Joni was steadfast and resolute in her Heavenly Father. And now, on the other side of the battle, on the other side of the craggily terrain that was cancer, she can reflect and rest in God's amazing victory.
You see, the thing about the path is that we venture on. Pass more mile markers. Sometimes we pray for a map that often never comes - but we continue walking, hiking, running, trudging along. Always remembering to pause at the rear view mirror and marvel at how far we've come in our journey in Christ.
And, hitting those refreshing shade trees once in a while is nice, too.
