9/11 & Prayer in America

As the 10th anniversary of 9/11 approaches, I find it providential that it falls on a Sunday. Many churches across the country are planning special services to reflect on that fateful event while provide comfort for those who continue to grieve.

I recall attending a prayer meeting at our church shortly after 9/11 and for several evenings in a row, the doors of the church remained open for those who sought counsel or to pray with someone.

For many of us who don't know how to observe such a memorable day, I think the best place we could be is in church, surrounded by others who won't know what to say, but we can pray, asking the Lord to provide comfort for those who struggle and to meet those who are searching for answers.

Prayer has always played an important role in our country, starting with the faith of our founders.  FamilyFacts.org from The Heritage Foundation reports that the majority of American adults pray daily.  In fact, just under three in five adults say they pray daily and one in five prays weekly.  Only about ten percent of U.S. adults say they never pray.

While more information is shared on the daily "Family Facts" program, you can learn more about religious habits and the impact on our society including the frequency of prayer, church attendance, affiliation, personal beliefs about God and the Bible.  I think you'll be encouraged, as I was, by exploring this data.

Heritage is also encouraging us to demonstrate our support of freedom on 9/11 by displaying the American flag.  You can learn more about their campaign here.

Thank you for joining with us in an effort to build stronger families by airing the important information provided on "Family Facts."
