A Brown Package

It was just about this time last year that I was preparing for a missions trip to Africa.  Things seemed to be falling into place, when, just days away from boarding the plane, a brown package arrived on my doorstep. 

The doctor called to let me know that my mom's mammogram reflected something which warranted a second look -- immediately.

In Anne Graham Lotz's recent A Wake-Up for God's People simulcast, she shares how God sometimes allows brown packages to come into our lives . . . because He has a treasure on the inside.   

I have to admit that while in the waiting room waiting to see the radiologist, neither my mom nor I were feeling like we'd been given a treasure. 

We poured our hearts out to God - why?  Why this? Why now?  There was packing, planning and so much to do to prepare for a trip we'd felt He was calling me to do.  Was He trying to tell me I wasn't supposed to go? 

So, we prayed . . . for Gods' peace no matter the outcome.  

And I held my mom's hand. 

As my mom's small hand trembled in mine, I thanked God that I was able to be with her - that He orchestrated this moment in time when I could sit by her side and comfort her as she'd done so many times for me.   The treasure.  

In her message, Anne shares that brown packages show up in variety of forms-- financial burdens, divorce, death and, in my case, a possible diagnosis of a disease for my mom.  

That same day, we learned that what had appeared on my mom's mammogram was merely a shadow - nothing of consequence. 

But what we experienced and received that day was of significant consequence - "a treasure" as Anne reflects, from our Heavenly Father . . . wrapped in a brown package.
