Indeed, the LORD will comfort Zion; He will comfort all her waste places. And her wilderness He will make like Eden, And her desert like the garden of the LORD; Joy and gladness will be found in her, Thanksgiving and sound of a melody. (Isaiah 51:3)
With hopefully no offense to our many friends from Texas, a recent trek to Austin reminded me of the juxtaposition of a Southern California coastal landscape to that of the Lone Star State's vast prairies. Even though it was officially Fall, during my visit the weather remained at the 100 degree mark. Close by was the reminder of what that sustained heat had meant to the challenge of containment when devastating fires destroyed more than 1500 homes. Seemed pretty much a desert to me!
Even so, to paraphrase Eugene Peterson's rendering of the passage above--our meeting site was "a place filled with exuberance and laughter, thankful voices and melodic songs."
Why? Because we were marking the tenth anniversary of the launch of "Revive Our Hearts" with Nancy Leigh DeMoss. And those who had gathered were overflowing with gratitude for what the ministry has meant to their own lives, and to that of thousands of others.
What a beautiful picture of the flourishing that transpires when we respond affirmatively to the calling to freedom, fullness and fruitfulness in Christ. It's a message distinctively "counter-cultural" but it is evident that there are thousands upon thousands of women who are seizing hold of this alternative to the feminist's agenda. And it is one that, simply said, is changing lives.
So ... on behalf of a ministry we are so privileged not only to serve but to support as well ... thank you from Nancy Leigh DeMoss and the ROH team, thank you from the parent organization (Life Action Ministries), thank you from the Advisory Council, and thank you from donors like the group who met in Austin. I can tell you we departed Texas convinced there could be no better investment in transforming our culture. We're so grateful for your part in that!
