It hasn’t gone away. We haven’t been able to spend our way out of this “Great Recession.” No one seems to know what to do. You can watch the presidential candidates debate back and forth about ways to fix the mess we are in, but I’m not sold that any of their plans will work. One thing they all agree on is something has to be done…but the economy is so big, the dollar numbers so difficult to wrap your head around, and the red tape so thick it seems that only some yet to be determined herculean feat will be able to turn things around.
But this economy isn’t just having an impact on national debts and government spending…it is impacting real people.
I sat in a Bible study a few weeks ago with 4 other men…2 of them are in bankruptcy. One of them has new found employment, the other one has not as of yet.
It’s easy to say “just trust Jesus and it will all work out” but what does that look like? Do you spend money you don’t have in hopes that the Lord will provide? What if you’ve been trying to sell your home for 2 years and it just won’t move - What does trusting in Jesus look like then? What does God mean when He declares that He will provide all your needs?
These are real questions that should drive us to our knees, and to God’s word – which is why I am thankful for what Charles Morris is going to be doing the week of October 17th on HAVEN Today. He’ll be sharing calls from real listeners in real situations who are learning to trust God in these valleys. So when you are listening, will you pray for Charles, for those who call in, and for all of us - that we might fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
