It's amazing when the ministry we love intertwines with our daily lives. I've asked our very own Lee Ann Jackson to share a little about what's new for her youngest daughter, Rebecca:
There is nothing like a new book to get my heart pitter-pattering . . . the anticipation of a thought-provoking book that you just can't put down.
But what if you're 9 years old?
Yes, there are good enough books about adventures, school antics and even some with good enough pictures. But, a 9 year old reading a book she can't put down?
Every fall, our church starts a new "Live Wires" Discipleship Group (designed for Tweens) and this year, they've chosen to read Elizabeth George's A Girl After God's Own Heart.
I asked my 9 year-old Rebecca why she can't seem to put the book down (she even took it to school!):
1) Because it sounds like the woman who wrote it is talking to me.
2) I want to learn more about God.
3) I like using the pink highlighter that matches the color of the book!
That's my Rebecca . . . a heart bursting with love for good books and God . . . with a flair for style!
I, on the other hand, have my own three reasons why my heart is a pitter-patter about Rebecca reading A Girl After God's Own Heart:
1) Its a book designed to help little girls grow in wisdom and grace as they endure the Tween years.
2) The weekly book discussions will help Rebecca (and her friends) realize that God wants to lead them every step of their growing up years.
3) It's written by Elizabeth George whose books for the more "mature" girl have helped me in my walk with Christ!
(And, I admit the idea of a matching pink highlighter is kind of cool too!)
As Elizabeth notes, "Walking with God is the most amazing journey a girl can take." I'm praying it's the beginning of a life-time commitment my Rebecca will never be able to "put down" as she takes steps to becoming a girl after God's own heart!
