A headline in a recent LA Times article read "Fade-Out on Family." Though the article was really about the fade-out of family TV programs, it also spoke to the fade-out of the family unit.
Reflecting that the scarcity of family TV programs largely reflects societal and pop culture shifts, the article noted that the family unit itself has markedly changed. Over the last four decades - as divorce and single parenthood climbed sharply - the percentage of children younger than 18 living in a two-parent household slid from roughly 85% to 67%, according to statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau.
As networks move towards filling the "family TV viewing hour" with darker and edgier material, I realized how much more vital it is today for those who support traditional Christian values and families to have a voice in under girding the family unit.
"To preserve and promote the institution of the family and the Biblical principles on which it is based is why we started Family Talk," Dr. Dobson shared in a recent broadcast.
Just this week, Dr. Dobson addresses how the United States Air Force Academy has recently come under fire for wanting to participate in a charitable outreach to needy children around the world this Christmas. Listeners won't want to miss as Dr. Dobson weighs in on this latest attack on religious freedom.
And, on Friday, Hugh Hewitt joins Dr. Dobson to remind us that now is the time to stand up - even in the face of a culture that mocks your faith at every turn.
"And that's why I'm glad I'm back." shared Dr. Dobson recently with listeners as he listed the primary emphases of "Family Talk": marriage, parenthood, evangelism, the sanctity of life and encouraging righteousness in the culture.
And that's why we join with the many, Dr. Dobson, who are so glad you are not fading out on the family.

P.S. And congratulations to LuAnne Crane on her recent appointment to Vice President of Broadcasting at "Family Talk" - longtime friend and co-worker of Dr. Dobson, LuAnne's kindred spirit and own family life have equipped her to minister to many as she also co-hosts "Family Talk" with Ryan Dobson.
