I don't know about you, but I've had a hard time listening to HAVEN Today this past week. I'm not having a hard time because of the program quality or the pace of the broadcast. I'm having a problem with the content. That is to say there is something about the idea of "living on less and liking it more" that doesn't sit well with me.
You see, I like stuff. I like comforts. I like to live on more not less. I'm already spending my evenings looking at the Black Friday ads that have come out to see if I can get a 42" 1080p LCD for under $400. It's time to upgrade from my 16 year old 36" Sanyo ... or is it?
Charles Morris has had Dr. Maxine Hancock on the broadcast all this week. Maxine and her husband went trough some devastating financial hardship when the bottom fell out off the livestock market, and an early frost took their crop...but in the middle of it, God provided in amazing ways. In a life of "less" God seems to show up more. Why then do we embrace the consumer culture of our age so that we can have more and more? What do you more of this Christmas Season ... stuff or Jesus? Are not Christmas and Thanksgiving really "all about Him?"
