The Family Dinner Table Matters

I'll be the first to admit that having regular family dinners can be a challenge.  As our kids have gotten older and involved in more activities, it's affected our ability to schedule this special time around the table, as much as we'd like.  At the same time, these are the days when it's more critical than ever to be intentional about bringing the family together.

Kids today face more pressure than ever and knowing they have a safe place to share their concerns as well as voice their opinions, is so important.  Studies continue to show that the family dinner table matters.

On upcoming "Family Facts" features from The Heritage Foundation, they share the results of a recent study by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University confirming the positive impact of teens sharing meals with their families.  The study tracked teenagers who ate dinner with their family two or fewer nights per week compared to those who had dinner with their family at least five times a week.

Those teens were one and a half times as likely to drink alcohol, two and a half times as likely to smoke cigarettes, and nearly three times as likely to try marijuana.  It's evident that nothing can replace the role of family in the life of a child.

Heritage Sponsors National Presidential Debate - November 22

For the first time ever, The Heritage Foundation will host a presidential debate on foreign policy and national security.  All of the republican presidential candidates are expected to participate in this debate which will be broadcast live on CNN (8pm Eastern from Washington DC).

"The timing couldn't be better.  We're setting the table for some lively family discussions at Thanksgiving," Heritage President Edwin J. Feulner said.  "Nothing is more important to the future of our nation than how we approach national security and foreign policy."

If I can help connect you with the experts at Heritage for interviews about this upcoming debate or other hot topics, just let me know.

Thank you for helping your listeners face the (family) facts.  Sharing valuable information like the content heard on "Family Facts" will help families stay (and eat) together!

Speaking of fellowship around the table, hope you enjoy a blessed Thanksgiving.
