Sharing with children at church this weekend about Thanksgiving, I was reminded how far our country seems to have distanced itself at times from our Godly heritage.
In reviewing American history and the original Thanksgiving celebration with 6-7 year olds, I came across the numerous references to God, His blessings and His mercy.
If you are fortunate enough to spend any length of time with children, you've no doubt experienced what I often do - the learning of a valuable lesson. In sitting down with these children and talking about Thanksgiving, fielding question after question about God and pilgrims, I learned how important it is not only at Thanksgiving but all year around, to share about our blessings and to whom we owe our gratitude.
As Anne Graham Lotz shared recently about "Daily Light for Daily Living®," I Praise God for all those little 60 second droplets of truth going out on so many stations. I pray they will become a river of blessing...and revival!!"
Perhaps what this nation needs is a revival of the true celebration of Thanksgiving Day.
Here's to bringing God back in Thanksgiving . . . for taking time to read about the real reasons and struggles the Pilgrims endured so many hardships for . . . to invite our families to reflect and be touched by the sacrifices they made and their tenacity, thankfulness, and obedience to God.
Thanksgiving has been celebrated as a day to give thanks to God for His gracious and sufficient provision. President Abraham Lincoln officially set aside the last Thursday of November, in 1863, "as a day of thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father."
This Thanksgiving, Anne invites us to thank God for Jesus by taking time to get to know Him for Who He is in His deity, authority, supremacy and activity . . . to read the Bible daily and to listen for Him to speak to you through it.
And that is how a revival of the true celebration of Thanksgiving Day starts.
