This month, Peggy Campbell shared a truly special time with Joni:
Just a few weeks ago, I had the deep delight of "seeing a dream come true."
Like you, I have long admired Joni Eareckson Tada for her faithfulness to Christ and her unfailing testimony to His grace. The fact that I count her as a very dear friend is icing on the cake -- and a sweet one at that since I can attest to the authenticity of her perpetual commitment to God's plan for her remarkable life from a more "up close" vantage point.
A couple years ago (as a special birthday gift to Joni), it was a joy to help establish a fund at Azusa Pacific University where scholarships could be awarded in her name to those who seemed to be uniquely equipped to "carry on" that dedication to serve those in the disability community.
Recently, we gathered in the Ronald Boardroom at APU to rejoice in the designation of the first recipient of the Joni Eareckson Tada Scholarship award. Angelica Guangorena is a senior, pursuing a degree in Social Work. In fact, she's already involved in service, working at an agency in Southern California, primarily strengthening skills for children and adults with autism. What a joy to hear her testimony and the way in which God has already led in her life. And, to witness a measure of that "baton-passing" that transpires as heroes of the faith instill the next generation (and beyond) with encouragement to "press on" in the course God's intended.
As I hope you can tell by the smiles on our faces, it was a grand day ... and I hope you'll be encouraged as well. The truth is--you are helping to make all this possible by sharing Joni's message every day, cultivating a sense of calling to serve all, whether disabled in body or soul. Now, that's a real Thanksgiving!
