Leaving Your Mark

Newspaper headlines this week are very retrospect . . . notable events of 2011 and those individuals who left a mark.

As we bid farewell to 2011, we said goodbye to Steve Jobs who wanted to "put a ding in the universe."  Another significant passing was that of Betty Ford whose personal battles inspired many to seek treatment for their own struggles.

I can't help but wonder . . . what kind of mark am I leaving on those around me --- on my children in particular?

The first week of "Family Talk with Dr. James Dobson" is a great way to start the year off considering our "marks." From a straight-forward discussion on being healthy by maintaining good eating habits and the importance of exercise, to finding joy along the journey while having the courage to hold on to God's plan for your life.

There are also videos available on the ministry web site to further equip dads and moms in their parenting roles . . . videos underscoring the importance of communication, putting others first and doing the right thing.

It's good to take account of the "mark" we are leaving on those around us on any day of the year, but particularly as we usher in 2012, it's a great time to start anew!  As Dr. Dobson shared in his recent ministry letter, "We, like you, are simply attempting to do what God has asked of us   . . . " Here's to doing what God has asked of us and in doing so, leaving His mark along the way!

P.S.  Dr. Dobson closed his recent ministry greeting with this "The mail we receive from our friends is the fuel that keeps us going."  As the New Year begins, thank you for inviting your listeners to send a note of encouragement to the Family Talk team  -- a great time to thank them for the mark they've made on families in 2011!
