When my husband and I moved to Lancaster PA nearly five years ago, finding the right church was our primary goal. We had several options to choose from, including one our relatives attended. We anticipated the search would be easy. It wasn't.
And now I know why.
In John MacArthur's opening statement on "Grace to You®" this week he says:
"I think the church today is lost in a maze of options, a smorgasbord of choices ... mostly dictated by the idea that we have to appeal to people who are unconverted and design a church to appeal to them so we can draw them in. Nothing can be further from the purpose of the church.
Many of the churches we visited were exactly as John described.
In his study Marks of a Healthy Church (airs 6/25-7/13), John MacArthur provides listeners with help in identifying a strong church, but he also explains there's a responsibility we need to bear for the healthiness of the church. While we did find a healthy church to attend, we definitely could've benefitted from hearing this important study prior to our move.
There are more valuable lessons ahead from Grace to You® in July when John prepares us for Spirtual Warfare (7/16-25) and then tells us why The Art of Self-Discipline (7/26-31) is so critical to our spiritual life. Your listeners won't want to miss a single one!
