This year's presidential election is one of the first I have been really in-tune to.
Granted it's only the second I've actually been able to vote in but over the last four years I believe I have developed a greater understanding of what it means to lead a nation. From a global recession, the death of Osama bin Laden, the restructuring of our Nation's healthcare and the recent killing of the U.S. Ambassador to Libya; the challenges and transitions a president faces are many and varied. Yet I'm sure we only know part of the challenges these individuals face on a daily basis. To me this thought is sobering and increases my thankfulness for the men and women who are willing to step up to the challenge.
While I may never serve my country in this capacity I am still called to support our appointed leaders and pray for them.
1 Timothy 2:1-2, "First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way."
I am so thankful for individuals like Max Lucado who are helping bring this Biblical calling into the forefront of our hearts and minds as we move into the election season. Tomorrow marks 40 days until November 6th and I plan on joining with Max in offering up this simple prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Unite us
Strengthen us
Appoint and anoint our next president.
In the name of Christ we pray,
Amen.
This election season I will rest in the knowledge that while I will be casting my vote, the Lord is ultimately in charge of the result!
Blessings,
Melissa Maudlin
