Unlike Joe Friday, we really don't want "just the facts"--we're interested in what others are thinking about issues that concern us as broadcasters, and as believers. You might be too!

We were heartbroken…both of us. We couldn’t have children; at least not the way most people do. God had for some reason or another given us that special gift of infertility. A gift that Hannah, Sarah, and Elizabeth were all given.  Like them, we wondered why the Lord would bless us with that emptiness.  The Bible is clear, “children are a blessing from the LORD.” Why wouldn’t He bless us?  Why would He allow unmarried teens to give birth to unwanted children? Why couldn’t we bring children into our happy, healthy, God fearing home?

It turns ...

Christian Alliance for Orphans

It was an interesting week after my dad died.  I flew in to spend the week with my mom and sisters.  And each night, for a week, at exactly  7:00PM, my mother would begin her narrative.  It was the story of her life.  Her way of coping with loss.

I'd always known my mom was an orphan and ultimately adopted-twice.  But it wasn't something she dwelt on or talked about.  It was one of those family "things"; part of the mysterious background as to why we only had grandparents on my dad's side of the family ...

Marshmallows...What NRB is All About!

What?

Stay with me!

In the days before heading off to the National Religious Broadcasters Convention in Nashville (NRB), my prayer was, "Lord, give me patient obedience."  And He seemed to say back to me, "Ev, didn't we already cover that together?"

I'm usually obedient, but rarely patient.  So my prayer was in earnest.

I thought about it as I stood in a meeting area looking for some kind of appropriate bowl for marshmallows, thinking, "Lord, is this what you had in mind when You said, 'For such a time as this?'"  And I'm relatively sure His ...

I dropped my 7 year old off at school the other day and as I watched her run off to the playground, I was reminded of the need kids have to fit in.  Almost immediately, Rebecca ran to meet her two best friends and show off her new outfit.

Of course, a child's need to fit in isn't really unique . . .  my three were distinctly aware of this reality at a very young age-wearing the right clothes, hanging out with the cool kids and playing the popular sports were intentional decisions on their part.

As parents, we pray that ...

Travelin' Light--to NRB: a Metaphor for Life!

LuggageSaturday morning I was on the elevator in my condo building and a couple got on who were obviously "moving in." The man person was carrying a tower of shoe boxes and didn't appear all that happy about it!

I thought to myself--"whoa lady, you need to edit those shoe boxes!"

It's number one on my list for travelin' light, whether it's to NRB or any trip you take.

Guys, this is primarily for us gals, but if there's something here you can latch on to, be my guest.

First, shoes take up too much ...
