In a recent email from FamilyLife, Dennis Rainey said this statement from Dietrich Bonhoeffer--German theologian who died standing against Hitler's evil regime--impacted him so much he wrote a letter of apology to his adult children.  Here's portion of that letter he shared with readers:

I read a great article in the LA Times on January 1^st . . . in Gone in the Blink of an Eye, the writer shared how quickly 2010 went by and how research has shown that the more years you have, the faster they seem to go.

The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA), now in its 60th year of ministry, has no doubt experienced what this writer noted - the years seeming to pass faster and faster as their ministry outreach grows. It's no wonder then that the BGEA faces 2011 as it does every New Year-without letting the grass ...

Reflection is a common word this time of year but what my pastor shared this week in his message was anything but common.

He encouraged us to take a deep breath of grace while we review and reflect on what God has done in our lives this past year.  To take the time to write down what we thought of this past year and then ask God what He thought about it. 

Reflecting and remembering what God has done in our lives in 2010 is an important assignment - personally and corporately.

It's a good feeling when you flip back the calendar year and realize just how productive you were able to be in the course of twelve (seemingly short) months.  The team at HCJB Global knows all about that -- and they're excited to have all of us join them in the "unlimited opportunities" they see for the cause of Christ in 2011.

As I hang up a new calendar for 2011, look at a fresh "to do" list, and grab my "One-Year Bible" off the shelf, a feeling of refreshment washes over me.  It's a new year that brings about a fresh start and time to make some new commitments.

I wonder, though, how will I feel in a few weeks when the pressures of life have set in and I've grown tired of reading through Leviticus, yet again!

Perhaps you struggle as I do in keeping up with a demanding schedule and still finding time to meet with God ...
