Ministry Updates

My deepest desire is to be a Woman after God's Own Heart . . .  a godly woman.  One molded by and used of God.  And, without God's leading and intervention it won't happen.  That is my daily prayer.

Elizabeth George (A Woman after God's Own Heart) says that praying to become a godly woman is a worthy prayer, but she also asks, "What does a godly woman do?  How does she act?  What is it about her that marks her out as a godly woman?"

Those are the answers I need.   Elizabeth points to Titus 2:3-5 where you will find the character qualities of a godly woman.  She says the 10 most important priorities for women are:

Godly Speech

Love of Husband

Love of Family

Love of Home

Personal Discipline

Ministry to Others

Christ-like Behavior

If you share Elizabeth's and my prayer to become a godly woman, read Titus 2:3-5 and ask God to show you how to develop these qualities in your life.  It won't be an overnight change, but it will be well worth the end results!

It's a Willingness Thing

If you've ever talked with Barry Meguiar, you know his excitement is utterly contagious.  At this year's National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) Convention, Barry told me about a new mobile app he was building.  It houses many useful features for today's Christians—from on-demand videos and radio features, to daily stats for sparking evangelistic conversations ... but most fascinating to me was the "Eprayer" function.

Barry mentioned that the app even had a way for users to add an email address to the prayer request.  "That way, you can email them in a week and see how the progress ...

Watching Rather than Witnessing

Have you ever wondered how new words get added to the dictionary?  In fact, that is the number one question for editors of the Merriam-Webster dictionary.  Their answer is very simple: usage.

I think the Merriam-Webster dictionary should add a term that is already included in the slang-based Urban Dictionary. That word is people-watching, defined by Urban Dictionary as "the action or practice of spending time idly observing people in a public place."

I was sitting at one of the gates at the Dallas-Fort Worth airport recently on a busy afternoon and rather than plugging into an electronic device, I ...

Bibles for Cuba!

More than 67,000 Bibles are on their way to Cuba!

That's a staggering number!  And it's a result of the vision of Haven's Charles Morris and an array of generous donors.

This started two months ago when Charles led a group of Haven friends to explore the state of the church and the church of the State.  While Roman Catholicism remained officially tolerated, the underground evangelical church persisted--small but vibrant.  And as is so often the case, in spite of soviet and socialist suppression, the home church movement is thriving.

Today, while the freedom to worship ...

Living my glory days—full throttle!

birthday-cakeToday's my birthday.  I'm 75 years old, and it's either "full throttle" or stop breathing!

So delving into Max Lucado's new book, "Glory Days: Living Your Promised Land Life Now" has special significance in this season of my life.  With each new book, I say, "this is his best so far!"  But Glory Days is his best!  Max is a master story-teller, no question—stories that are a result of his unrelenting study of God and His story!

And this one's a whopper!  Max uses as his text the Old Testament book of Joshua.  He ...

Meet the Virtual Missionary

English Speaking VolunteerOver 300 unreached people are on a waiting list for an English-speaking virtual volunteer.  That's the report from Reach Beyond in their latest podcast.  They said:

Much of the world speaks English, and many non-English speakers want to learn the language.  So why not meet that need while bringing the gospel into the conversation?  That's exactly what's happening in a creative ministry in some security-sensitive countries through English Conversation Clubs.

Your eyes will be opened as Reach Beyond President Wayne Pederson and Jon Fugler, vice president of advancement, talk with missionary Janine Rembas.  She has a passion ...

A Work in Progress

Have you ever worked on a project that seemed to go on forever?  It's so hard to keep working when it seems like there's no end in sight.  This past weekend we started a bedroom remodel for our teenage son, and while a major project like this can easily test the patience of adults, consider how difficult it can be for a 15-year-old boy to picture his awesome new room while in the midst of taking measurements, sanding wood, and picking out paint colors.  We had to remind him that this is a process and his desire for ...
