Great Marriages Don't Just Happen

WTR Banner

When I got married in 1995, it never occurred to me that my Marine husband and I would immediately have struggles.  I was extremely hopeful that getting married would provide me with a companion and a father for my then 11-year old son.  Well, it did that, but not without a lot of heartache, disappointment, and many challenges.

Six months after we were married, Ambassador offered to sponsor the married couples on staff to attend a local FamilyLife marriage conference.  Honestly, looking back it was the best and most timely gift we ever received!  And while the challenges of being ...

40 Years of Faithfulness

  • Tuesday, July 26, 2016

In FamilyLife's recent Legacy Report (40th Anniversary Edition), Dennis Rainey says:

"When I look back on the history of FamilyLife, I can only say, in the words of Paul: 'Now to him who is able to do more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever, Amen.' (Eph. 3:20-21 ESV)"

All this week on "FamilyLife Today," co-founders Dennis and Barbara Rainey talk about FamilyLife's 40 years of ministry to marriages and families-starting ...

How You Always Meant to Parent

  • Tuesday, June 7, 2016

"We wanted our children to know their life was found in the person of Jesus Christ; and to be independently dependent upon Christ." - Dennis Rainey

Isn't that every Christian parent's goal?  That if we "train up" our children as Proverbs 22:6 says, then our efforts should result in having children entirely dependent upon Christ.  I know that's how I meant to parent my son.  But like many other parents, instead of focusing on modeling God's truth in the home and letting the Holy Spirit bring conviction, I often became distracted and (admittedly) obsessed with trying ...

Super Mom or Supermom? There's a Difference!

  • Tuesday, May 3, 2016

"Mothers have to remember what food each child likes or dislikes, which one is allergic to penicillin and hamster fur, who gets carsick and who isn't kidding when he stands outside the bathroom door and tells you what's going to happen if he doesn't get in right away. It's tough. If they all have the same hair color they tend to run together." - Erma Bombeck

There are times when being a mom is anything but funny. That's why I always appreciated the humor of Erma Bombeck.  Her outlook on motherhood (and family life) often provided ...

Helping Teens Discover Their True Identity

  • Tuesday, April 5, 2016

In January on "FamilyLife Today," Dennis Rainey posed a question..."What is the major sexual revolution that is occurring in our world today?" His answer, "It's gender identity."

According to one online source, "gender identity is defined as a personal conception of oneself as male or female (or rarely, both or neither)."

How far down the wrong road we've come.  In fact, that's evident by these unsettling and tragic headlines of late:

  • Justice Department tells prisons to take gender identity seriously.

  • Schools adopt gender identity non-discrimination policy.

  • New York City has enacted a regulation that ensures ...

Anniversaries Matter

  • Tuesday, March 8, 2016

If you've been listening to "FamilyLife Today" lately, you've heard Dennis Rainey and Bob Lepine mention that this year marks their 40th anniversary as a ministry.  That is a significant milestone and very much worth celebrating!

But what Dennis makes clear in this video is that..."What we're really celebrating is all the anniversaries we've made happen because of what God has done through the ministry of FamilyLife."

Here's a portion of a letter that went out to their constituents in January that explains further what they hope to accomplish in this milestone year ahead ...
