35 Things I Wish I'd Known In High School

  • Monday, August 31, 2015

So today is a weird day.  My oldest child starts high school, and as I see the photos of many friends who have just sent their kids to college, I know that these next four years will go by faster than I'd like.  My husband and I are struck by the reality that there is still so much we want to teach our son before he graduates (class of 2019!) and leaves the nest.

While this day brings up lots of emotions, it also causes me to reflect on my high school years and at times, makes me think ...

A Work in Progress

  • Monday, August 3, 2015

Have you ever worked on a project that seemed to go on forever?  It's so hard to keep working when it seems like there's no end in sight.  This past weekend we started a bedroom remodel for our teenage son, and while a major project like this can easily test the patience of adults, consider how difficult it can be for a 15-year-old boy to picture his awesome new room while in the midst of taking measurements, sanding wood, and picking out paint colors.  We had to remind him that this is a process and his desire for ...

The Heart God Revives

  • Wednesday, July 1, 2015

Are you a proud person or a broken person?  Nancy Leigh DeMoss asked that question to a group of ministry workers twenty years ago this month.  Their response was surprising, and those in attendance still remember that message twenty years later.  Listeners will hear how God used a message of brokenness on Revive Our Hearts programs airing July 6-10.

Nancy says, God wants to restore our "first love" for Jesus, rekindle the fire of devotion that once burned brightly in our hearts, reconcile broken relationships, and rebuild the parts of our lives that are in a state of disrepair.  In ...

Women of the Word

  • Monday, June 1, 2015

I'm currently reading a very inspirational and practical new book called, Women of the Word: How to Study the Bible with Both Our Hearts and Our Minds by Jen Wilkin who is a speaker and teacher of women's Bible studies.  It's a book about equipping women through Bible study.

In my experience as a participant of many Bible study groups through the years, most studies fail to recognize that the Bible is a book about God because the teaching leads us to believe that the Bible is a book about us.  Jen writes . . .

"We think that if ...

Missional Mothering

  • Thursday, April 30, 2015

One of the most popular concerns of Revive Our Hearts listeners relates to the issue of motherhood.  The ministry regularly hears from women who ask Nancy Leigh DeMoss for guidance and encouragement in every season of mothering.  Understandably, even women who aren't mothers themselves ask for help in relating to their own mother (because each of us has one!).

Looking ahead to Mother's Day, Nancy brings listeners a special interview with Jani Ortlund on the topic of "Missional Mothering" (airing May 4-8).  During this week of programs, Jani, a pastor's wife and mom of four grown children ...

True Woman 201

  • Monday, March 30, 2015

A few years ago, I had the pleasure of leading a small group of women through the True Woman 101 Bible study written by Nancy Leigh DeMoss and Mary Kassian.  It's a resource that has impacted thousands of women, of all ages, in churches nationwide and internationally.

As our group of women was challenged by the teaching of biblical womanhood, many shared that it opened up a whole new way of thinking, particularly in how they engage with their husband and children.  One of my dearest friends, who was raised in the church, said this study was a "game ...
