The Journey of Prayer

max-lucado-before-amenLast Wednesday, "Before Amen" launched on airwaves across the nation.  In the week leading up to its debut, the Lord prepared my heart to pursue deeper—and more frequent—conversations with Him.  At church, my pastor talked about prayer.  In staff devotions, we discussed prayer.  During weekly small group, we studied prayer.

This is one of those beautiful times where God persistently nudges my heart in a specific direction.  He's pursuing my attention and inviting me to seek Him more extensively than I historically have.

Prayer is a spiritual discipline that has always intimidated me.  What do I have ...

Save the Date: Joni's 65th Birthday Twitter Party

Things about the number 65 . . .

- 1965 was the debut year of the Ford Mustang and a new class of car, the Pony Car, was birthed (and, one of my favorite all time cars!).

- One of my favorite Bible verses is from Psalm 65, verse 2: "You who answer prayer."

And this year, there's another special significance to the number 65 -on October 15th, Joni Eareckson Tada celebrates her 65th birthday and we're all invited to join the celebration -- here's your invitation:

This year, Joni is celebrating her birthday on Twitter! On October 15, Joni's ...

October is National Down Syndrome Month

Every Sunday after the church service, Jim and I hug and talk about his week.  His weeks don't vary much.  He has school, work  and "fun time."  However, what did vary this week was his response.  When I hugged him goodbye and told him to have a great week, instead of the usual "Okeydokey," Jim's reply was "I've got this."

And you know what?  I know he does.

Jim may have Down syndrome and as a result, face some unique challenges, but through the 20 + years I've known him and watched him grow up with my ...

Do Right and Seek Justice

mercy-ships-africa-mercyLast week, CBS' 60 Minutes was awarded an Emmy for its feature on Mercy Ships® and the largest charity hospital ship, the Africa Mercy.

As I watched the feature, my attention was drawn to one of the nurses, Ali Chandra.  She was gracious and kind, and possessed an obvious passion for serving the people of West Africa.

When the interviewer mentioned to Ali that some documentary viewers may be thinking, "I could never do what she does.  Those poor people are terribly disfigured.  I can't look at them," Ali's response was remarkable.

"People have been saying that to ...

God never says oops!

barry-meguiarHow many people do you know who appear to be happy but are actually in despair and may be lost for eternity unless you intervene?

In one way or another, Barry Meguiar asks that question each day in his feature, "Revival Outside the Walls".  It's his way to "ignite" in each of us God's purpose for our life—which is to lead others to Christ!

Robin Williams' death on August 11, was the catalyst for a special week-long series of highly compelling features beginning October 6.  Barry gives us not only a challenge, but practical and simple ways ...

A Bully Pulpit Pastor for "Clergy Appreciation Month!"

jim-garlowI'm reading and enjoying immensely Doris Kearns Goodwin's book, "The Bully Pulpit:  Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and the Golden Age of Journalism."  "Bully Pulpit" is a term coined by Theodore Roosevelt referring to the White House as a powerful platform to advocate an agenda.

And in this month of "Clergy Appreciation", I can't think of any pastor for whom the term "A Bully Pulpit pastor" fits better, and for whom we have any greater appreciation for, than Pastor Jim Garlow.  He's also heard daily on "The Garlow Perspective."

Jim's agenda is most assuredly biblio-centric ...
